Silvia S14

Background: My partner Jake is big Japanese car enthusiast and has his own Nissan Silvia S14. Jake and I travel to car shows to see the best of Ireland’s cars! There is plenty of inspiration between the cars, owners & vendors at the shows which prompted me to start this series.

Aim: This project aimed to help me journey into poster design & get creative with a new and interesting subject using multiple programmes to create unique outputs.

Process: For this poster, I began in photoshop creating an isolated clipping of Jake’s actual car. Using photoshop I was able to edit & manipulate the clipping with curves, contrast and posterize settings to make a rendered image of the car. I added layers of speckles to emulate road grit and texture. I use this same distressed motif throughout the design. Moving these components into Illustrator, I created a vector background with text and shape. Included is the model badge, car model and number in Japanese & references to Japan using circular motifs and outline type like the neon signage of the era. Details relating to the car are found at the bottom of the poster as well as the car manufacturer’s brand.
